M-DCPS BROAD PRIZE RUNNER-UP MIAMI - Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) has again been recognized as a runner-up for The Broad Prize for Urban Education. New York City was awarded the top honor. M-DCPS will receive $125,000 in scholarships for graduating seniors. “We are honored to receive this recognition,” said Dr. Rudy Crew, Superintendent of Schools. “Our teachers’ commitment in the classroom is reflected in our students’ performance on the FCAT [Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test], which continues a trend that adds up to significant improvement over the last five years. Across the board, the science scores have increased, writing has improved at all grade levels, and for the second year in a row, the majority of our students are performing at or above the national median in reading and math.” The Broad Prize for Urban Education honors urban school districts that demonstrate the greatest overall performance and improvement in student achievement while reducing achievement gaps.
