THREE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY EDUCATORS SELECTED AS FINALISTS FOR
FLORIDA OUTSTANDING PRINCIPAL
MIAMI – Three Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ principals have been named finalists for the 2007 Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership. The honorees are Adrianne Leal of Coral Reef Senior High School, Reva Vangates former principal at Dr. Henry W. Mack/West Little River Elementary School, and Dr. Winston Whyte of Howard D. McMillan Middle School.
The Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership honors principals who have spearheaded initiatives to increase student performance, promote safe learning environments, and establish partnerships with parents and community members. Miami-Dade is the only county with a finalist in each category; elementary school, middle school, and senior high school.
Three state winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 2 at the Commissioner’s Summit for Principals in Orlando, Fla. The winners will receive a monetary award and an additional monetary award will be provided to the schools where the winners serve as principal.
During the Commissioner’s Summit, there also will be an Outstanding Assistant Principal Award. The nominees from Miami-Dade County are Dawn Baglos, current principal at Crestview Elementary School, Concepcion Santana of Claude Pepper Elementary School, and Hilca Thomas of Howard A. Doolin Middle School.
