M-DCPS RESPONSE TO RECENT MRSA CONCERNS
MIAMI – As a result of recent Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) concerns in schools across the country and in Florida, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), in conjunction with the Miami-Dade Health Department has taken the following measures to ensure the safety of its students, faculty, and staff.
- A letter with important information on how to eliminate or to contain any Staph or MRSA infections has been sent to all M-DCPS Principals and Athletic Directors.
- An educational in-service training on MRSA for athletic directors and school site athletic trainers is scheduled with an emphasis on prevention, identification, and intervention.
- The M-DCPS Division of Environment and Safety is reviewing operational protocol and custodial training to maintain clean facilities.
The Miami-Dade Health Department has assured the District, that at this time, they are not investigating any Staph or MRSA outbreaks, either in the schools or in the community at large.
