MIAMI-DADE CEOS TO BECOME
CHIEF EDUCATION OFFICERS FOR A DAY

MIAMI – What does it take to lead a public school? On October 24th, more than 350 Miami-Dade business and community leaders will find out when they become Principals for a Day at schools across the county.

The event, sponsored by Merrill Lynch in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, culminates with a 1 p.m. luncheon at the Airport Miami Hilton, 5105 Blue Lagoon Drive.

CEOs, judges, mayors, legislators, attorneys, bankers, and military commanding officers are among those set to take on what Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Rudy Crew calls “one of the most demanding jobs around.”

“The participants will be astounded and enlightened,” said Dr. Crew. “Few jobs demand more than that of a principal and few professionals give more of themselves than the women and men who head our schools. Principals are CEOs, and then some. They’re responsible for budget, strategic planning, public relations, personnel management, crisis management and security. They’re custodians of public dollars and the public trust. Above all they are teachers: instructional leaders charged with preparing students for the demands of the real world.”

“Principal for a Day provides us an opportunity to experience first-hand the challenges and rewards that many of our principals and educational leaders face daily. Merrill Lynch looks forward to translating this one-day experience into long-term relationships to enhance the environment at local schools.” said Kimberly Palmer, regional managing director, Merrill Lynch South Florida.

Principal for a Day mobilizes hundreds of Miami-Dade County business and community leaders to experience first-hand the triumphs and challenges of running a public school. The program’s goal is to turn their one-day experience into a long-term and active partnership with schools, enhancing student achievement and yielding a stronger, more educated workforce.
