MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO PARTICIPATE IN
WORLD AIDS AWARENESS WEEK ACTIVITIES

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ HIV/AIDS Education Program, in collaboration with The Urban League of Greater Miami, will hold a Youth Summit for students who attend schools in the Liberty City area on Friday November 30, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Joseph Caleb Center, 5400 N.W. 22nd Ave., Miami. Worlds AIDS Awareness Week runs from December 3-7.

Approximately 500 students will interact with community leaders to discuss, act-out, and join-in educational activities to prevent the spread of the HIV virus.

Miami-Dade County ranks number one in the State in regards to new HIV cases, first in the State with pediatric HIV cases, and first in the nation with reported cases of AIDS. In an effort to reverse these trends, many initiatives are targeted towards youth who represent 50 percent of all new HIV infections in the United States.
