M-DCPS HIGH SCHOOLS NAMED AMERICA’S BEST BY
U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT

MIAMI – Two Miami-Dade County public schools secured spots on U.S. News & World Report’s list of 100 Gold Medal High Schools that was published this week.  Design & Architecture Senior High School and New World School of the Arts made the list of America’s 100 best high schools.

Seven other high schools also were honored by the magazine.  They include:

Doral Academy – Silver Medal
Coral Reef – Silver Medal
MAST Academy – Silver Medal
Mater Academy – Silver Medal
Miami Lakes Educational Center – Silver Medal
Robert Morgan Educational Center – Bronze Medal
William H. Turner Technical Arts – Bronze Medal

Using a formula produced by K-12 data research and analysis business run by Standard & Poor’s, the magazine put high schools in 40 states through a three-step analysis.  First, it measured how each school’s students performed on state tests, adjusting for student circumstances.  Next, it evaluated how well each school’s disadvantaged students had performed.  And third, it checked to see if the school was successful in providing college-level coursework.  The 100 schools that did the best in this analysis earned gold medals.
