M-DCPS SUPI PROGRAM RECEIVES OUTSTANDING EVALUATION MIAMI - The M-DCPS Superintendent’s Urban Principal Initiative (SUPI) program, launched in 2005 in collaboration with The Education Fund, The Council for Educational Change, The Miami Museum of Science and WestEd, has been lauded as an exemplary professional development program in an evaluation report prepared by the Wachovia Foundation and its Teachers and Teaching Initiatives (TTI) program. The evaluation compared SUPI with other nationally recognized leadership development programs including the New York City Leadership Academy, New Leaders for New Schools, and the Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement. In particular, the Wachovia TTI cluster evaluation analyzed results and trends across all programs, assessing program content, learning methods and participant growth by measuring outcomes in seven categories including instructional leadership, planning and evaluation, school culture and parental engagement. Designed to analyze cumulative results across the cluster, the evaluation identified best practices and effective approaches for developing school leaders. A site visit was conducted with each grantee and, in most instances, qualitative and quantitative data from program stakeholders was collected. Over 163 participants, program staff and district observers shared their experiences through interviews or focus groups representing all nine organizations in the cluster. The evaluation report concluded that SUPI met or exceeded the leadership cluster on all outcomes. The report also noted that SUPI provided a breadth of professional learning experiences that has empowered participants to think more strategically about school-wide instructional leadership initiatives. ### 07-JSS/228/QT |
