MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO DISTRIBUTE LAPTOPS
AS PART OF LINKS TO LEARNING PROGRAM

Sprint to the FCAT Event Thursday

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools in partnership with Sprint will launch its Links to Learning program by loaning laptop computers to students at Hialeah Senior High School on Thursday, December 17 at 9:30 a.m. in the school media center. Hialeah Senior is located at 251 E. 47th Street.

Students will receive loaner computers to supplement their classroom studies while preparing for the upcoming FCAT tests. In addition to computers, Sprint will donate mobile broadband devices and Internet service for three months, a contribution valued at nearly $42,000. More than 250 students from Holmes and Pine Villa elementary schools and Hialeah Senior High School will receive refurbished computers as part of the Links to Learning initiative.

“It is the responsibility of the school district to provide its students with opportunities to continue their lessons outside of the classroom,” says Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho. “Our children will need to be technologically savvy to thrive in the third millennium. Links to Learning emphasizes the principles that will propel our children to academic success.”

Links to Learning provides grade-level, technology programs in reading, mathematics and science to supplement and enrich student learning beyond the school day. Activities can be found on the student portal on the District website.

"We're pleased to help the students of Miami Dade County Public Schools Links to Learning program meet their academic goals by providing the ability to study from home or virtually wherever they need to via Sprint 3G Mobile Broadband, America's Most Dependable 3G network,*" said Jaime Jones, Sprint senior vice president of general business and public sector. "Sprint is committed to helping educators and students take advantage of technology to improve safety and security for students, enhance educational opportunities and bring learning beyond the classroom."
