M-DCPS LEADS TOP PERFORMING SCHOOLS IN FLORIDA

MIAMI – Miami-Dade’s public schools are among the top performing in the state, according to data released today by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE). The state data provides a numerical ranking of the state’s 3,078 public and charter schools, grouped by elementary, middle, senior high and combination schools. The ranking is based on each school’s total school grade points, which are calculated based on criteria such as points derived from the FCAT, student enrollment, learning gains in reading and math, graduation rates, and postsecondary readiness.

“While overall rankings provide an overly simplistic view of academic success, devoid of size, demographic profile, and regional considerations, we ought to take pride in the fact that 17 of our schools rank in the top 20 across all categories out of over 3,000 schools statewide,” said Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho. “Simply put, thanking, not ranking, a teacher in Miami is in order.”
