SIX FINALISTS VIE FOR MIAMI-DADE'S
TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Miami-Dade County Public Schools will host the 2013 Francisco R. Walker Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year luncheon to name the most outstanding teacher throughout the District on Friday, Feb. 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Doral Golf Resort & Spa’s Legends Ballroom.  The resort is located at 4400 N.W. 87th Ave., Doral.

The six finalists, the regions they represent and their schools are listed as follows:

  • North – Leticia Bacallao, Meadowlane Elementary
  • North Central – Alexandre Lopes, Carol City Elementary
  • South Central – Rebecca Manzanas, Dr. Manuel Barreiro Elementary
  • South – Dr. Thomas Uhle, Centennial Middle
  • ETO – Mia LaFrance, Dr. Henry W. Mack/West Little River K-8
  • Adult/Alternative – William Derr, South Dade Adult Education Center

The presenting sponsor is South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union, co-sponsored by Univision 23/Telefutura 69, Nova Southeastern University School of Education, Pearson, United Way of Miami-Dade, Fox Mar Photography, and in partnership with United Teachers of Dade and Miami-Dade County Council of PTAs/PTSAs.  Kendall Toyota will present
the winner with the keys to a new car.

The Rookie Teacher of the Year finalists will also be recognized and the winner announced.  The finalists are listed as follows:

  • North – Kristy Reinhartz, David Lawrence Jr. K-8 Center
  • North Central – Sherif Watson, Santa Clara Elementary
  • South Central – Sully Fernandez, Zelda Glazer Middle
  • South – John Blakely Crary, Coconut Palm K-8 Center
  • ETO – Annette Konoske-Graf, Miami Edison Senior
  • Adult/Alternative – Vinita Chakravarty, Lindsey Hopkins Technical Ed. Center
