STUDENT FROM SUNSET ELEMENTARY IS WINNER OF THE
‘THIS IS MCGRAW-HILL MY MATH’ STUDENT ART CONTEST

Finley Moss, a second-grade student at Sunset Elementary School was selected as one of the winners of McGraw-Hill Education’s ‘This is McGraw-Hill My Math,’ out of more than 2,400 submissions.   The national art contest recognized 12 winners. Designed to inspire students’ passion for math and other science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields, the contest challenged students to illustrate what math means to them through sculpture, drawing, painting and photography.

“We are so happy that Finley’s artwork was selected,” said Dr. Marlene Leyte-Vidal, Principal. “Her efforts and the diligence of her teacher, Ms. Diana Millares, paid off for everyone in our school community.”

Finley will be honored at an event at her school and her winning artwork will be featured in McGraw-Hill Second-Grade Math textbook. Additionally, Sunset Elementary will receive nearly $15,000 in fun and functional classroom prizes through the generous support of contest sponsors including Promethean, netTrekker, Intel, Texas Instruments, The Math Forum @ Drexel and Crayola.

In her artwork, Finley created a birthday cake featuring different colors and shapes to highlight the importance of everyday math in our lives.  Finley’s artwork, along with the other contest winners’ creations, will be highlighted at the opening of the Museum of Mathematics in New York City.
