M-DCPS STUDENT AND EDUCATOR RECOGNIZED BY FLORIDA GOVERNOR
A Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ student and an educator were recently honored by Florida Governor Rick Scott during a Black History Month celebration in Tallahassee.
Gabriella La Rosa, a kindergarten student at Gateway Environmental K-8 Learning Center was recognized as one of two student art contest winners. She was awarded $250 in cash. The theme for this year’s competition was “African-American Pioneers Who Advanced Science and Technology.”
Haronique Durham, an 8th grade U.S. History teacher at Mandarin Lakes K-8 Academy, was recognized as one of three exemplary African American educators recognized with the Excellence in Education Award. The outstanding teacher was awarded $1,500 in cash.
