ACADEMY OF FINANCE STUDENTS AT CORAL GABLES, MIAMI – The South Florida Workforce Investment Board (SFWIB) has awarded $25,000 towards the Center For Financial Training at Miami Dade College Future Bankers’ Camp Program to strengthen their commitment and expose students to careers in the financial services industry. The Miami Dade College’s School of Business and the Center for Financial Training Future Bankers’ Camp will prepare a total of 20 students enrolled at Coral Gables and Booker T. Washington senior high schools. This innovative program will provide students with various educational enhancement opportunities that will enhance their math and communication skills, including on-the-job training, internships, and industry certification with the ultimate aim of college and career readiness. “The Future Bankers’ Camp affords students the opportunity to be prepared and become acquainted with basic elements of finance, which ultimately will have a positive impact on their livelihood, overall performance in school, their readiness for employment and actual employability success,” said Rick Beasley, Executive Director for the South Florida Workforce Investment Board. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to receive the American Bankers Association, American Institute of Banking (AIB) Bank Teller Certificate. This national industry standard certificate meets the educational requirement for the certification exam offered by the Institute of Certified Bankers. Students who graduate from high school are eligible for Miami Dade College’s Vocational Certificate and can work towards an associate’s degree in financial services. Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Academy of Finance program is a member of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), a national network of career academies to support the development of America’s youth toward personal and professional success in high school, higher education and throughout their careers. There are 13 high schools in Miami-Dade with Academy of Finance career academies.
