STUDENTS HOLD CANDLELIGHT VIGIL IN MEMORY OF TRAYVON MARTIN

Nearly 400 students and staff from Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High joined School Board Member Dr. Martin Karp and Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho during a Candlelight Vigil in memory of Trayvon Martin, a student at the school who was killed in Sanford, Florida on February 26.  School Board Member Dr. Martin Karp and Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho addressed students, along with Principal Dawn Baglos, Trayvon’s teacher Michelle Kypriss, and Miami-Dade Schools Police Chief Charles Hurley.

The candlelight vigil was held as an opportunity for students to honor the memory of Trayvon.   Ms. Sabryna Fulton, Trayvon’s mother, has encouraged students sign petitions, attend organized rallies, and pray as ways to honor her son’s memory.

During the Vigil, students read poetry, reflected on their classmate and friend’s life and interpreted musical selections among them Ave Maria.
