MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO ANNOUNCE
NEW FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS

WHO:

Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho, Burger King Latin America President Jose Tomas, EverFi, Inc. CEO Tom Davidson, executives at BankUnited, Espirito Santo, and Florida Community Bank, M-DCPS administrators, students, and interested citizens

WHAT:

Announcement of a major new education initiative and partnership with district-wide sponsor Burger King and local sponsors BankUnited, Espirito Santo Bank, and Florida Community Bank.

WHEN:

Tuesday, April 3, 2012
12:50 pm – 2:10 pm.

WHERE:

Miami Edison Senior High School, Auditorium
6161 NW 5th Court
Miami, FL 33127

WHY:

Credit card bills, debt, saving, and financing higher education are not often priorities for most high school students, yet the financial decisions they make today will have long-term effects on their lives. Poor financial awareness jeopardizes teens’ ability to succeed in today’s complex and competitive environment. This announcement will focus on this issue.

Guest speakers will discuss the importance of financial education to high school students and the coming generations, information on how this education initiative is transforming learning in the classroom, and the value of public-private partnerships in making it all happen. Students will be recognized for completing the program, and there will be special live demonstrations of the online financial literacy curriculum that is being introduced in high school classrooms.
