SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS ALBERTO M. CARVALHO AND EVERFI HONOR STUDENTS IN CEREMONY FOR FINANCIAL LITERACY ACHIEVEMENT

Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho and EverFi honored Miami Edison Senior High School students recently with certification in financial literacy after completing the Florida Financial Scholars program. EverFi is a web-based program that uses the latest in new media technologies – video, animations, 3-D gaming, avatars, and social networking – to bring complex financial concepts to life for today’s digital generation.  District-wide sponsor Burger King and local sponsors BankUnited, Espirito Santo Bank, and Florida Community Bank partnered to make this program available to every high school in Miami-Dade County Public Schools as part of an initiative to make innovative financial education available to all students.

“It’s encouraging to see the involvement of so many distinguished financial institutions in this program that provides our students with valuable insights into financial literacy,” said Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho.  “These students are at a vulnerable age, where they can and should learn to make wise decisions that will help them set a positive course for college and the years ahead.”

The certification event, held at Miami Edison Senior High School, included remarks from Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, EverFi, Inc. President Tom Davidson, Burger King President of Latin America Jose Tomas, BankUnited Senior Vice President Steve Brimo, Espirito Santo Senior Vice President Raul Vidal, and Florida Community Bank Vice President Ian Berger.
