MIAMI BEACH HIGH STUDENT WINS STATEWIDE CONTEST

Belen Mella, a 9th-grade student from Miami Beach Senior High School, was named the statewide winner of the Florida KidCare’s Act Out for Health Public Service Announcement (PSA) contest.  Belen’s 30-second PSA titled, “On Your Marks, Get Set, Have Fun," was so creative and professional that the judges unanimously voted to award her entry the top prize. She received a $1,000 scholarship and $500 was donated to Miami Beach High. Additionally, her winning PSA was shown in various pediatric doctors' offices around the state.

For the past four years, the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation has hosted the Florida KidCare Act Out For Health Contest, in which students from grades 4-12 could submit a billboard design and/or an essay. Only students in grades 6-12 were eligible to submit entries in the PSA category.

A panel of judges selected the contest winners. District winners were selected from three regions across the state. Judges chose one winner from each of the three regions to advance to the Statewide Grand Prize finals.
