MIAMI NORTHWESTERN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL TO HOST
FIRST ANNUAL HEALTH FAIR

MIAMI - The Medical Magnet Program of Miami Northwestern Senior High School, in partnership with City Year Miami, will be hosting its First Annual Health Fair. This event, which is free and open to the public, will take place on the campus of Miami Northwestern Senior High School, 1100 N.W. 71st Street, on Saturday, April 28, 2012, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Vendors will provide health services, physical activity training, and educational materials on various health issues affecting the communities of Liberty City and Little Haiti. Free services will include dental, HIV/STD, glucose, and cholesterol screenings, as well as testing for blood pressure and BMI. The educational portion of the event will provide information regarding women’s health, various financial services, and healthy cooking (through presentations by Be Organic and the Short Chef). The physical activities component of the event will incorporate sessions throughout the day with certified personal trainers as well as yoga with the Yoga Gangsters, who will educate participants on simple and different ways to integrate physical activity into their daily lives. In addition to the main elements of the Health Fair, there will be a Kids Corner that will function as both a safe place for children to congregate as well as a venue to educate them about the importance of healthy eating and physical activity in a fun and age-appropriate way.
