DISTRICT FOUNDATION NAMED A FINALIST FOR ANNUAL
NOVO AWARD TO BE PRESENTED MAY 2

Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho to present keynote speech, ‘Legacy of Learning’

The Foundation for New Education Initiatives, Inc. (FNEI) has been selected as one of three finalists for the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s 11th Annual NOVO Awards in the $2 million and above category. The winner will be announced at the Trustee luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2 at Jungle Island, 1111 Parrot Trail.

The luncheon first will feature Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho with a presentation titled, “A Legacy of Learning.” The role of education is the foundation of the One Community One Goal initiative for job creation.

The NOVO awards recognize nonprofit programs that have made a difference in the lives of the people they serve, produce outcomes that exemplify innovative excellence, and feature best practices of not-for-profit businesses.

The FNEI was created in 2008 by The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, to raise funding for educational innovations that prepare students for success in the third millennium. The Foundation’s first initiative, aptly called the ETO/Success Academy, is helping to boost student test scores and school accountability grades throughout the community. Through The Parent Academy, another FNEI initiative, parents sign a contract to ensure their child’s attendance in the Success Academy, while they learn about their own roles as education partners through 10 Saturday workshops.
