TERRA NAMED GREEN RIBBON SCHOOL

TERRA Environmental Research Institute was named a Green Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. It is one of 78 such schools in the country and has the distinction of being one of only three Green Ribbon Schools in Florida.

Green Ribbon Schools are honored for their dedication to increasing the environmental literacy of its graduates, improving the well-being and academic performance of the students and faculty as well as reducing its environmental footprint.

The Green Ribbon Schools Award Program was created this year to recognize schools for innovative programs that support the environment, health and education. Green Ribbon Schools promote college and career readiness, environmental stewardship, STEM skills and energy efficiency.

TERRA is the school district’s first green school. The school showcases the District’s commitment to eco-friendly practices. Environmental principles are incorporated into the school’s curriculum and construction. The magnet school’s innovations include utilizing the condensation from the air conditioning units to water plants, water faucets on 20-second timers, bathroom facilities that use less water and lights on motion sensors.
