DR. MICHAEL KROP SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CREATES TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE

Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School is a comprehensive high school designed to offer a rigorous academic program while providing opportunities for students to engage in numerous extra-curricular activities, to excel in athletics, and to shine through its performing arts magnet, The STAR Academy.

Founded 10 years ago, the faculty, staff, and students of Krop Senior High have created a tradition of excellence that inspires success in all areas of the school.  This is evident in the school’s recent “A” rating from the state’s Department of Education and through the awards and recognition earned by students and faculty.

Over the past 10 years, students from Krop Senior High have garnered nearly $80 million in college scholarships, including several Coca Cola scholarship winners, have won numerous athletic and academic championships, including four State Championships in Girls’ and Boys’ Tennis, superior ratings in District and Statewide performances, and 65 Silver Knight Awards (30 winners and 35 honorable mentions).

The school’s graduation rate is among one of the highest in the county with 86 percent of the seniors graduating and of those graduating, 98 percent indicate they are attending a two- or four-year university. Annually, the school’s top graduating seniors are admitted into the nation’s top universities and Ivy League schools.  

Several other highlights include:
•  Ranked 6th nationally for participation and pass rate of Hispanic students in Advanced Placement courses
•  One of three Presidential Scholarship finalists for Miami-Dade County
•  Four National Merit Scholars
•  Two of the 10 Papa John’s finalists
•  Three of the five Miami-Dade Representatives for International Science and Engineering Fair
•  Seven students qualified for National Competition of the National Forensic League Debate

•  Superior ratings in District and state music contests for String Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble

•  Recognized as one of the leading instrumental programs in the State of Florida by the National Wind Band Honors and National Bands of America.
