CORAL PARK SENIOR’S ENGINEERING ROBOTICS MAGNET PROGRAM
WINS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN D.C.

Students from Miami Coral Park Senior High School's Engineering Robotics Magnet program are national champions after winning the ACE Mentor Industry Round Table National Championship in Washington, D.C., this past weekend. Thirty-nine schools nationwide were chosen from a field of 300 applicants to compete in the finale.

Over the course of 16 weeks, Coral Park magnet students worked under the mentorship of 13 Turner Construction employees to design a unique parking structure that will be located in Miami’s Brickell area. The distinct structure design contains retail space and services on the first floor, and an Italian-themed restaurant and movie theater on the top floor. Both students and mentors made collaborative design decisions, developed cost estimates, logistics plans and a construction schedule, and modeled the project in the Revit computer program.

A panel of Construction Industry Round Table members judged the projects and chose Coral Park to take home the grand prize of $5,000.

ACE stands for Architecture, Construction and Engineering, and the program pairs up high school students who have an interest in those areas with professionals who volunteer to work for 16 weeks with the teens on special projects. The ACE Mentor program is open to any high school student who has the curiosity and drive to learn about a career in design and construction — from contracting and engineering to architecture and landscaping.

Miami-Dade County high school students can now benefit from a nationwide program designed to introduce them to the wide range of career opportunities open to young people in architecture, construction, engineering, and related areas of the building design and construction industry.
