SECOND ANNUAL KICKOFF, MAY 19

The second annual kickoff for 10,000 Steps-A-Day, a free, voluntary walking program aimed at helping people lose weight and improve lifestyle habits, is scheduled for May 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Barbara Goleman Senior High School.  The school is located at 14100 N.W. 89th Avenue, Miami Lakes, FL 33018.

At the event, participants will pick up their pedometers, tee shirts and water bottles.  Staff will be available with laptops to assist employees who did not register.  Vendors will be offering free health screenings such as blood pressure checks, biometric screenings, vision screenings, health and wellness information and exercise demonstrations.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) employees may register online and receive a pedometer to measure their daily progress towards 10,000 steps.  Throughout the eight week program, participants will track their steps on the website.  The registration period runs from May 14 - 20, 2012.  The actual start date of the program is May 21.  Participation is open to M-DCPS Cigna members and their covered dependents.
