TEN M-DCPS SCHOOLS MAKE NEWSWEEK’S LIST OF
AMERICA’S BEST HIGH SCHOOLS FOR 2011

Ten Miami-Dade public high schools earned their way onto Newsweek magazine’s list of the 1,000 Best High Schools in America. A total of 69 schools from Florida made the prestigious list, which was released this week. Ten are in Miami-Dade County.

Leading the list in ranking order for Miami-Dade’s high schools:

  • School for Advanced Studies (12)
  • MAST Academy (58)
  • Coral Reef (69)
  • Design & Architecture Senior High (211)
  • New World School of the Arts (214)
  • Doral Academy Charter (567)
  • International Studies Charter (568)
  • Miami Palmetto (608)
  • Doctors Charter (727)
  • Mater Academy Charter (844)

Newsweek, which has been ranking the top U.S. high schools for more than a decade, highlighted the best 1,000 public high schools in the nation—the ones that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads. The list is based on six components provided by school administrators: graduation rate (25 percent), college matriculation rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent), and AP courses offered per student (5 percent).

A total of 2,300 schools were assessed to produce the final list of the top 1,000 high schools.  For a complete list of schools, visit the Newsweek website at: http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2012/05/20/america-s-best-high-schools.html .
