SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS ALBERTO M. CARVALHO
RECEIVES ‘ORDEM DE MÉRITO CIVIL’ FROM PRESIDENT OF PORTUGAL

The President of Portugal recently honored Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho with an “Ordem de Mérito Civil” as an Officer.  The “Ordem de Mérito Civil “ is the equivalent of the Presidential Medal of Honor in the United States and was bestowed as part of Portugal Day celebrations.

“This award is a validation of the work of an immigrant in a welcoming community like Miami-Dade.” said Mr. Carvalho.  “And, as such, I extend this honor to the entire community.”

The President of Portugal can bestow the “Ordem de Mérito Civil” to “reward acts or services of merit practiced in the exercise of any functions, public or private, or that reveal the concern and abnegation in the service of the group.” The purpose of the ‘Ordem’ is to recognize the services of Portuguese nationals, foreign citizens, and/or corporations regarding instruction and public works that influence the progress and prosperity of the country.
