SUPERINTENDENT CARVALHO PRESENTS REORGANIZATION PLAN
Two weeks after approval of a $2.7 billion operating budget, which was achieved by reducing the tax rate and overcoming a $60 million budget hole, Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho will present a reorganization plan today to the Miami-Dade County School Board.
“This reorganization shifts non-school functions from compliance-centric to teaching and learning support-driven,” said Carvalho. “It is a values-driven reorganization.”
The plan also launched ED, the Enterprise Division, which is charged with developing revenue-generating ventures in support of public education and promotes the expansion of choice by creating more than 30 new magnet programs. The plan will save the school district more than $14 million, which will be reinvested in protecting teachers, schools and programs. Today’s reorganization supports demand-driven reform – creating change that gives parents and students the educational choices they want and need.
