SUPERINTENDENT ALBERTO M. CARVALHO TO WELCOME STUDENTS TO A
NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Miami-Dade Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho will welcome students to a new school year at several locations on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012.  Media will be welcomed at the following locations:

6 a.m. - Transportation Facility East, 5901 NW 27 Avenue, Miami, 33142.  Superintendent Carvalho will see off some of the school district’s 255 new buses, which are equipped with air conditioning and seatbelts and cut fuel consumption in half.

7 a.m. – Barbara Goleman Senior High School 14100 NW 89 Avenue, Miami Lakes, 33018.  The school is home to the AP | Cambridge Capstone Program, a partnership of the College Board, Cambridge University and Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The rigorous new program combines the in-depth subject matter offered through AP courses and exams with the interdisciplinary global seminar curricula and the assessment of research projects and presentations offered by University of Cambridge International Examinations.

7:45 a.m. – North Dade Middle School/ North Dade Center for Modern Languages Elementary School, 1840 NW 157 Street, Miami Gardens, 33054.  This brand new facility is opening on time and within budget, two years after the old facility was closed due to safety concerns. Superintendent Carvalho will have breakfast with students.   Breakfast is available free of charge each day to Miami-Dade students.

9:25 a.m. – Miami Springs Senior High School, 751 Dove Avenue, Miami Springs 33166.  The iTech program offers a sequence of courses to prepare students for careers such as Game/Simulation Designer, Game Programmer, and Game Software Developer in the Information technology career cluster.

10:50 a.m. – Miami Senior High School, 2450 SW 1st Street, Miami, 33135. Miami’s flagship high school is undergoing extensive remodeling to preserve and honor its rich heritage.
