CORAL REEF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL AND SCHOOL DISTRICT WORK WITH
MIAMI-DADE HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO INFORM PARENTS ABOUT PREVENTION OF MENINGOCOCCAL DISEASE

Staff of Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the Miami-Dade County Health Department met this morning with concerned parents at Coral Reef Senior High School following the death on Friday of a student from meningococcal disease at a local hospital. Senior District and Health Department staff have maintained constant contact and have been available to answer questions throughout the weekend.

Staff of the Miami-Dade County Health Department shared important information with parents pertaining to meningococcal disease and identifying students that should obtain preventive treatment.

Senior District staff stressed to parents that all necessary measures will be taken Monday morning to safeguard the health of students at the school. Additionally, important information is posted on the school’s Web site at http://crhs.dadeschools.net/

The Health Department has clarified that this illness is not related to the fungal meningitis that has been reported recently in the news media.
