M-DCPS’ PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM RECOGNIZED AS THE U.S. MODEL

Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Physical Education Program has been recognized as the model for the United States by NIKE, Inc. and 33 global partners in the report, “Designed to Move: A Physical Activity Agenda,” at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York City. The report, which addresses the epidemic of childhood obesity as a global problem, identifies a framework for action across the world.

Other programs, including those from South America, Africa, India, the United Kingdom, and China, are highlighted as case studies.

More than 70 experts from a wide range of disciplines contributed to the development of the framework. These are the champions who are committed to working together to create a new future.

The science is clear. Physical activity does more than create good health. It contributes to leadership, productivity and innovation. It lowers depression and crime, increases education and income levels, and generates return to businesses. It unleashes human potential, and this is what drives economies forward.
