MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS JOINS AMERICA’S PROMISE ALLIANCE GRAD NATION COMMUNITY

MIAMI - More than 50 communities from across the country have committed to increase local high school graduation rates to 90 percent by 2020.   The Grad Nation Communities initiative creates a national network of cities, towns and counties that are committed to improving high school graduation rates by focusing on the young people most in need and engaging a cross sector collaboration.

In order to become a Grad Nation Community, cities and towns must submit an application detailing how they will engage a cross-sector of stakeholders in an effort to increase local graduation rates through specific focus areas.  Cross-sector collaboration is a crucial aspect.  Communities must also identify a local school or district that will be the focus of their efforts and report on their progress and challenges on an annual basis.

As a Grad Nation Community, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and a host of inspired local government entities are working together, forming educational compacts, to align resources and implement innovative programs to equip their students with the tools they need in school and beyond. The College Access Community Partnership (CPSP) is also a group of local community-based agencies, institutions of higher education, and local businesses who have joined together to align programs and services to impact college readiness, access, and success.

This past week, the CPSP partnership members gathered to engage in the process of developing a new Strategic Plan and its components of having a Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Goals.  This collaborative process included a review of relevant district-wide data related to our district’s current state in areas of graduation rates, college readiness, and acceleration.  Additionally, the dialogue evolved to include possibilities of other stakeholders that might help support the efforts of this partnership.
