EXPLORERS PHILIPPE COUSTEAU, BARRINGTON IRVING TO SPEAK AT M-DCPS’ 2014 STeM EXPO AT MIAMI DADE COLLEGE-NORTH, JAN. 25 The 2014 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Expo will gather Miami-Dade County's most creative, intelligent, and resourceful students to compete and demonstrate their prowess in STEM on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Miami Dade College-North Campus, Science Complex Building. The Science Complex is located at 11380 N.W. 27th Avenue, Miami, 33167. Approximately 2,000 students are expected to participate in the STEM Expo under the theme, “Going at Full STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.” They will also meet famed explorer, social entrepreneur and environmental advocate, Philippe Cousteau, the president and co-founder of EarthEcho International, EarthEcho’s Education Director Stacey Rafalowski, as well as the founder and executive director of Experience Aviation Barrington Irving. All three will speak and judge a portion of the entries during the competition. The Expo is an essential venue for showcasing the students’ hard work as well as for providing learning experiences on the responsibility of communicating STEM research and engineering designs to the community. Projects can open the doors to college scholarships and advanced academic program opportunities. Students receive certificates, medals, trophies and cash prizes as rewards. STEM EXPO competitions include the Elementary Science Fair, the 60th Annual South Regional Science and Engineering Fair and the 19th Annual SECME Olympiad and Festival. Visitors also will be able to participate in interactive workshops presented by Miami Dade College that will provide them with an overview of the North Campus and the extensive programs and class they have available.
