FIVE FINALISTS VIE FOR MIAMI-DADE'S 2015 FRANCISCO R. WALKER
TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Miami-Dade County Public Schools will host the 2015 Francisco R. Walker Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year dinner to name the most outstanding teacher throughout the District on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m. at the Trump National Doral Hotel. The 2014 Rookie Teacher of the Year also will be chosen. The event will be held at 4400 N.W. 87th Ave., Doral.

The five teacher-of-the-year finalists, the areas they represent and their schools are listed as follows:

  • North – Racquel Gibson, Lake Stevens Middle
  • Central – Kristin Trompeter, Rockway Middle
  • South – Jason Saunders, William Lehman Elementary
  • ETO – Nichole Anne Dino, Miami Carol City Senior High
  • Alternative/Vocational – Myrna Betancourt, South Dade Educational Center

The presenting sponsors are Delta Dental Insurance, United Way of Miami-Dade, and the South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union. The event is co-sponsored by Kendall Toyota/Scion, in partnership with Univision 23, FoxMar Photography, Abraham S. Fischler School of Education at Nova Southeastern University. Kendall Toyota/Scion will present the winner with the keys to a new car.

The District and United Teachers of Dade also will recognize the 2014 Rookie Teacher of the Year finalists, and announce the winner at the event.  The finalists are listed as follows:

  • North – Lissette Burns, Nautilus Middle
  • South – Victoria Jarrett, W.R. Thomas Middle
  • Central – Priscilla Blanco, Rockway Middle
  • ETO – Angelica Fulchini, Frederick Douglass Elementary
  • Alternative/Vocational – Deshannon Cooper, Educational Alternative Outreach Program
