2014-2015 BACK-TO-SCHOOL TOOL KIT FOR PARENTS NOW ONLINE

On Monday, August 18, 2014, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) will open its doors to an estimated 355,000 students, and transport more than 60,000 students via the District’s bus fleet.  To assist parents in preparing for the first day of school, the district has posted the Back-to-School Tool Kit online at news.dadeschools.net. The tool kit has pertinent information on subjects ranging from Choice schools, dual enrollment, hours, important dates, graduation requirements, ways to get involved and school safety.

New and returning students will have the opportunity to experience a variety of new educational programs and benefits during the 2014-2015 school year.
M-DCPS is unveiling 52 new choice and magnet programs including AP/Capstone, Cambridge, Science, Mathematics, Information Technology and the Arts. Eighteen new Cambridge schools and 10 new Capstone Programs are included.

Magnet programs will focus on STEM-related fields, including Geospatial Information Systems, coding, Engineering and Agriscience. Some programs are provided in partnership with local colleges and universities, as well as science agencies.

Miami-Dade Schools Police is endorsing a nationwide campaign called, “If You See Something, Say Something,” a simple and effective program aimed at raising public awareness to suspicious activity, then reporting it to local law enforcement.
