M-DCPS STUDENT FOUND SAFE

Miami, FL - On February 20, 2014, the Barstow, California Police Department arrested Carrie Weingarth and Christian Coello, fugitives from Florida who were wanted on State and Federal warrants. The arrests were made possible largely because of the efforts of Miami-Dade Schools Police (M-DSPD) Investigative Division. Children who were traveling with the couple were recovered safely.

According to police, Weingarth allegedly took her son, Erin Pena, from school, although she did not have parental authorization.  The boy’s father, Steven Pena, sought assistance from M-DSPD because Erin did not return home from school on February 14, 2014.   Weingarth also took with her two younger children, Derick and Steven. M-DSPD feared for the well-being of the children, and in cooperation with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, immediately put out wanted flyers through local, social, and national media to disseminate information about the case.

M-DSPD is in communication with the Barstow Police Department to reunite the father with his children.  Weingarth and Coello will be brought to Florida in reference to their warrants.
