M-DCPS HAS SEEN STRONG IMPROVEMENTS IN RECENT YEARS, WORKING HARD TO REDUCE ACADEMIC INEQUALITY IN SCHOOLS

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) has reviewed the report issued by the National Council on Teacher Quality.  M-DCPS always welcomes internal and external reviews for the purpose of improvement, and has subjected itself to many rigorous evaluations by organizations such as the Broad Center, Stanford University, AdvancEd, International Baccalaureate and Cambridge.

M-DCPS acknowledges the information presented in the study and is pleased to see the consistency with initiatives developed in the past few years. M-DCPS has identified these same findings far in advance of this study, and many of the recommendations presented validate much of the efforts put forth by the district.

Despite challenges, our graduation rate for African American students has surpassed those of Broward County, the State of Florida as well as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, the three largest school districts in the nation.

Attached are additional facts and figures to demonstrate how the district has been working for the past few years to improve practice, in order to increase student achievement, with emphasis on our most fragile schools.
