M-DCPS AWARDED NEARLY A QUARTER BILLION DOLLARS IN GRANTS

Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ (M-DCPS) students and teachers will benefit from 11 new grants, totaling more than $240 million dollars. Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho recently announced these grant awards that will help support school system instructional programs as well as aid students of all ages with disabilities and strengthen instructional support for recently-arrived immigrant youths and other English language learners.

“These grants will ensure that programs for mainly underprivileged M-DCPS students will be adequately funded, implemented, and managed for the 2014-2015 school year. Our goal is and always will be to enhance student achievement with access to quality education programs for all students,” said Carvalho.

Superintendent Carvalho commended the M-DCPS grants administration team, led by Associate Superintendent Iraida R. Mendez-Cartaya, for their diligence in applying for these funds and their expert management of hundreds of grant programs with annual expenditures of nearly one half billion dollars. Their exceptional fiscal management skills garnered them a single clean audit report by the State of Florida Auditor General.
