WHY:

The student industry conference is part of an ongoing effort to provide career academy students with insight into the importance of college and career readiness, while sharing information about professional career preparation and trends in the fields of engineering, finance, hospitality and tourism, health sciences and information technology.  This initiative is also aligned with the school district’s partnership and involvement in the One Community One Goal targeted Industry Implementation Plan.

Over 1,500 students will have the opportunity to hear from business and industry leaders who will deepen the impact of preparing students for college and career.  The conference theme, “Paving the Way to a Better Future”, will thread the concept of developing an “entrepreneurial” mindset in all sessions.

In addition to hearing from other respected professionals in their chosen industry, students will have an opportunity to hear from JD Hoye, President of the National Academy Foundation, who oversees a network of 500 college preparatory, career-themed academies in 39 states, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands and two featured keynote speakers, Jaime Casap, Global Education Evangelist for Google and Cameron Evans, US Chief Technology Officer for Microsoft.
