MIAMI-DADE SCHOOLS POLICE DEPARTMENT JOINS U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY TO PROMOTE
“IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING” CAMPAIGN

The Miami-Dade Schools Police Department (MDSPD), under the direction of Chief Ian Moffett, is partnering with the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to promote the “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign within Miami-Dade County Public Schools.  This is the first phase of a comprehensive school safety initiative titled “Campus Shield,” which relies onour school community of parents, students, staff, and visitors - the eyes and ears of our schools and neighborhoods.

This campaign will help to reinforce the role that local communities play and encourage our stakeholders to work together with the Department of Homeland Security.  It also raises public awareness of the behavioral indicators of terrorism and emphasizes the importance of reporting suspicious activities to local law enforcement.  Our schools will be receiving posters, which will be placed in areas around campus that are frequented by students, staff, parents, and visitors.

It is recommended that members of the community only report suspicious behavior and circumstances.  This can include such situations as an unattended backpack in a public place, or someone trying to break into a restricted area.  Only reports that document behavior that reasonably indicates criminal activity related to terrorism will be shared with partnering agencies. The number to call if you witness suspicious activity is 1-855-FLA-SAFE (1-855-352-7233). For more information regarding this campaign, contact Captain Ivan Silva at 305-757-7708.
