Two Miami-Dade County Public Schools students were recognized for their writing and art skills by Lieutenant Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera at the Governor’s mansion last night. The event was in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, with the purpose of celebrating the contributions Hispanic community leaders, educators and students continue to make on our state and nation.

Daniel Fernandez, a student from Devon Aire K-8 Center, was one of three winners of the essay contest in Grades 4-5. He will be receiving a four-year Florida College Plan scholarship provided by the Florida Prepaid College Foundation.
