SCHOOL FOR ADVANCED STUDIES TO HOLD TWO INFORMATION SESSIONS ON EARLY COLLEGE ADMISSION FOR 10TH-GRADE STUDENTS, OCTOBER 11

School for Advanced Studies (SAS), a full-time, dual-enrollment high school, will be holding information/application sessions on Saturday, October 11 for the 2015-2016 school year at two Miami Dade College (MDC) campuses:

  • North Campus, 11380 NW 27 Ave. at 9 a.m. in Building 5, Lehman Theatre; and
  • Wolfson Campus, 245 NE 4 St. at 1 p.m. Room 3210, Chapman Conference Center.

The Daily Beast ranked SAS in August of 2014 as the eleventh Best High School in America.

All current Miami-Dade County 10th-graders with a minimum 3.0 grade point average are invited to apply, and may become eligible for admission upon satisfying all program requirements, including earning minimum SAS college entrance exam scores. Enrollment is limited. If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of seats available, a random selection process will be used to admit students to the program.

Students attending SAS complete their last two years of high school while attending MDC and, in most cases, simultaneously graduate with both a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree. Students are able to obtain a true college experience since both their college dual-enrollment courses and their Advanced Placement (AP) high school courses take place on the MDC campus. All high school courses are AP level except for pre-calculus and research.

Students receive free tuition, fees, textbooks and, if eligible, school bus and Metrorail transportation funded by Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

SAS is located on four MDC campuses: Homestead, Kendall, North and Wolfson. SAS has recently been designated as "The Collegiate High School" for Miami-Dade County at MDC.
