MIAMI KILLIAN GRADUATE NAMED NEW UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA PRESIDENT

Miami Killian Senior High School graduate W. Kent Fuchs was named the 12th president of the University of Florida following a national search for the coveted position. Mr. Fuchs replaces Bernie Machen who will retire in December.

Mr. Fuchs was selected based on his strong academic background. He was the chief administrative officer at Cornell University before becoming provost of the Ivy League school. His impressive resume includes stints at Purdue University and the University of Illinois as well as a teacher at The King’s Academy in West Palm Beach.

Miami Killian has a rich history that dates back to1966 when it first opened.  Its students consistently score at or above the national level on standardized tests and college entrance exams. The iPrep@Killian magnet program is home to one of the most innovative and technologically advanced educational programs in the county. The program offers an academically rigorous liberal arts curriculum to students, preparing them for admission to top universities across the country, and providing them the opportunity to earn more than 30 college credits while still in attendance at Miami Killian. The school’s Academy of Law has represented the state of Florida at the national level. In addition, Miami Killian has the distinction of being the only high school with a JROTC Presidential Honor Guard.

Editor’s Note: Miami Killian principal Thomas Ennis is available for interviews. Please call the Office of Public Relations to schedule an interview.
