RE-IMAGINING THE ARTS IN WYNWOOD (R.A.W.) EVENT SET FOR DEC. 2

Jose de Diego Middle School to Come Alive with Art

The stark white walls of Jose de Diego Middle School (JDD) in Wynwood are coming alive with art created by international and local artists, for R.A.W.--Re-Imagining the Arts in Wynwood, a community effort to support arts education at JDD. The new artwork will be unveiled during a reception on Tuesday, Dec. 2 from 6-9 p.m. The school is located at 3100 NW 5 Ave, Miami.

The works of art are the result of a coalition of non-profits, organizations, corporate partners, local businesses, artists, musicians, and JDD staff and administration, brought together by the Wynwood Arts District Association in partnership with WynwoodMap.com. The coalition’s goals are to bring color and inspiration to the school’s walls and launch a long-term fundraising campaign during the week of Art Basel Miami Beach. A targeted goal of $500,000 in funds will be used to support the creation of strong, vibrant arts and music programs at JDD.

Local curators, Wynwoodmap.com, have selected international artists such as D*Face (UK), Anthony Lister (Australia), Pixelpancho (Italy), and Pastel FD (Argentina), as well as local artists such as Hox, Santiago Rubino, Typoe, and Magnus Sodamin to make the walls of JDD their canvas. The artists will make their mark on Wynwood, a neighborhood known as “the mural capital of the world”, in the weeks preceding and during Art Basel Miami Beach.

The Dec. 2 program will culminate in a grand unveiling of the freshly painted walls with a reception at the neighboring Bakehouse Art Complex, 561 NW 32 St., and a live performance by local favorites, Psychic Mirrors. The entire school building will be lit and open to the public for viewing.

The R.A.W. Project represents a significant point in Wynwood's development, as a broad range of organizations, individuals and constituencies come together to produce a world class cultural affair while giving back to a community and neighboring educational facility that needs support.
