MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS NAMED RECIPIENT OF
2013 THEODORE ROOSEVELT WORKERS’ COMPENSATION AND DISABILITY MANAGEMENT AWARD

Miami-Dade County Public Schools was named one of four recipients of the 2013 Theodore Roosevelt Workers’ Compensation and Disability Management Awards (Teddy Awards).  The award recognizes excellence in workers’ compensation risk management and efforts to reduce the number and cost of injuries to workers.  It was named in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt, who introduced and promoted the first major piece of workers’ compensation legislation in the U.S.

Organizations are evaluated based on the following criteria: performance, sustainability, team and teamwork, and innovation.  Among the reasons Miami-Dade County Public Schools was selected as a winner are its efforts in collaborating with unions on workers’ compensation issues, for saving money through a program dealing with physician dispensing of drugs, and for wellness initiatives targeting older workers.

The award will be presented at the annual Workers’ Compensation and Disability Management Conference and Expo in Las Vegas.
