Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) honored JPMorgan Chase at the 2015 NAF Academy Internship Employer Appreciation Reception held this month at the Holiday Inn in Miami Beach. Superintendent of Schools Albert M. Carvalho and School Board Member, Dr. Martin Karp joined more than 130 reception attendees, including industry partners, intern employers, school administrators, Career and Technical educators, academy high school students and parents.

Superintendent Carvalho spoke of the importance of industry collaboration towards the success of our students, recognizing JPMorgan Chase and Company for its $100,000 donation for the second year to the NAF/JPMorgan Scholars’ Youth Employment Summer Internship Program.

Thanks to their generosity, 167 JPMorgan Scholars were provided paid internships increasing the number of compensated internships by 35.6 percent over last summer.

These grant funds, combined with employer salaries, and an AT&T Aspire grant of $15,000 enabled 540 high school students to complete internships at 303 companies. Additionally, the number of interns receiving dual enrollment credit from Miami Dade College increased 82.6%.

Charles Group Hotels, a longtime supporter of the internship program, was recognized as a NAF Business and Education Champion who along with JPMorgan Chase hosted and funded the event. Awards for 2015 NAF Internship Long-Term Commitment with multiple interns were presented to Center for Financial Literacy and Bankers’ Camp, Charles Group Hotels, Miami Seaquarium, Miami-Dade County Department of Finance and the South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union.

Other partners recognized for their long-term commitment as employers were the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, Johnson and Wales University, Loews Miami Beach Hotel, Miami Parking Authority, Ocean Bank, and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Special recognition for increasing the number of internships went to Dade County Federal Credit Union and the City of Miami.
