M-DCPS KICKS OFF MONTH-LONG EXHIBIT OF STUDENT ARTWORK HOSTED BY MIU

Small Works, a district-wide, student exhibition hosted by Miami International University of Art & Design (MIU), kicks off a month-long showing Thursday, Oct. 1, and will highlight the artistic talents of K-12 students from 49 Miami-Dade County public schools throughout the county. The artwork can be viewed Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until November 2. MIU is located at 1501 Biscayne Blvd Suite 100, Miami, FL 33132.

An opening reception for the young artists will be held Saturday, Oct. 17 from noon to 3 p.m., also at MIU. Both events are free and open to the public.

Small Works is a realization of the school district’s commitment to using the arts as a tool for learning and expression. Students were challenged to create small 9-by-9-by-9 inches masterpieces in any theme, genre, style or art movement. All visual arts teachers were invited to submit up to five student works, and 200 finalists were chosen by a peer group of judges from thousands of entries.

The school district’s Division of Visual and Performing Arts in the Office of Academics and Transformation presents the exhibit, which is sponsored by MIU and the Dade Art Educators Association, Inc., www.dadearteducators.com.
