M-DCPS Recognized Two Years in a Row For Having The No. 1 Career Academy

The Academy of Hospitality & Tourism (AOHT) at Alonzo & Tracy Mourning Senior High School was awarded the Sanford I. Weill Academy of Excellence Award by NAF at its annual conference in Anaheim, Calif., this past summer.

The award, named for distinguished banker, financier and NAF founder Sanford I. Weill, is a national prize presented to the Academy exhibiting the highest standards for public-private partnerships for the benefit of students.

The AOHT at Mourning High, one of 15 academies in Miami-Dade County, has been a Distinguished NAF Academy for two years and last year was one of the three finalists for this coveted award. The academy also was the winner of an exchange project with students from Russia, sponsored by the U.S. State Department and administered by the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. The U.S./Russia Peer-To-Peer Dialogue Program fostered personal contact between the two countries during exchange visits. The first AOHT Academy opened in Miami Springs in 1987.
