HAMMOCKS MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER TO RECEIVE PRESTIGIOUS AWARD
AT SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

Susan Ryan, a Pre-Law Magnet drama teacher at Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Hammocks Middle, will receive “The Creative Coalition Teachers Making a Difference” Award in January.  She will be flown to Park City, Utah, with all expenses paid, during the Sundance Film Festival to receive this impressive award.

Ryan was nominated by Randall Emmett, her former student and a current producer and director, best known for such films as Lone Survivor, End of Watch, and Escape Plan.  Mr. Emmett credits Ms. Ryan as inspiring him during his formative years as a student at Hammocks Middle School.  Ms. Ryan, who retires at the end of this school year after 40 years as a teacher, said she is humbled by this honor and looks forward to the red carpet ceremonies, which will be attended by international celebrities.
