STATEMENTS FROM MIAMI-DADE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD CHAIR PERLA TABARES HANTMAN AND SUPERINTENDENT ALBERTO M. CARVALHO REGARDING GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT’S PROPOSED EDUCATION BUDGET

Statements by Perla Tabares Hantman, Chair of the School Board of Miami-Dade County, and Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho, regarding Governor Rick Scott’s proposed education budget:

“Education is the foundation for our children’s success in life, and Governor Scott has established a promising pattern of funding public education that enables our many economically-challenged students and their families the opportunity to fulfill their dreams,” said Perla Tabares Hantman, Chair of the School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida.  “We applaud the Governor’s foresight and encourage citizens to raise their voices in support of this action.”

Miami-Dade Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho stated, “It’s encouraging to see that the Governor continues to increase education funding, keeping the promise made by the Governor during his campaign.   A promise made is a promise kept.    We hope that the Legislature heeds the Governor’s lead in increasing education funding while providing much needed flexibility. If school districts are given flexibility in spending, they can address the specific needs of their student populations much more efficiently.”
