GEOFFREY ALADRO NAMED M-DCPS TEACHER OF THE YEAR, DESIREE AMBER CHASE IS ROOKIE TEACHER WINNER Geoffrey Aladro, an International Baccalaureate teacher at Frank C. Martin K-8 Center, was named the 2016 Francisco R. Walker Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year in a ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton Miami Airport & Convention Center tonight. Five finalists vied for the coveted title this year, which included one nominee from each of the District’s three regions, one from the Education Transformation Office and one from Alternative Education. Aladro, who is a proud graduate of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, teaches 8th grade United States History. The seven year teaching veteran is no stranger to top teaching honors. He was named Rookie Teacher of the Year for his school during his first year of teaching. One of his top goals at the beginning of every year is to create a connection with every adult or child that he encounters at his school. Since he teaches at a K-8 Center and students might stay in the same environment for at least nine years, Aladro is convinced he will eventually teach or have a link with most of the students in his school. The runner-up was Christine Rodriguez from Hialeah Gardens Senior High. Also recognized at the event were top rookie teachers. Desiree Amber Chase, a teacher at MAST @ Homestead, was named Rookie Teacher of the Year. Rebekah Erdvig, a teacher at Educational Alternative Outreach Program was the Rookie Teacher of the Year runner up.
