CUTLER BAY ACADEMY OF ADVANCED STUDIES KICKS OFF BOND PROJECT

Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, School Board Vice Chair, Dr. Lawrence S. Feldman, Principal Paul Pfeiffer and District representatives gathered at Cutler Bay Academy of Advanced Studies this morning to kick off its General Obligation Bond construction project. Cutler Bay Academy opened its doors in 1958.

Slated to be completed by the end of 2017, Cutler Bay Academy of Advanced Studies’ campus-wide renovations, include replacing a portion of Building 1, exclusive of Auditorium and Cafeteria/Kitchen, as well replacing Buildings 2, 3 and 4; new construction to provide approximately 615 new student stations and the remaining building 5 and 6 combined with the Music Lab in the Auditorium to provide a total of 602 existing student stations; and new classroom technology.

The GOB program provides a total project allocation of $12,631,148, and the School Board commissioned Laura M. Perez and Associates, Inc., as the architect of record for the project. The firm is both M/WBE and SBE/MBE certified. The architect has committed to a SBE/MBE sub-consultant participation goal of 25 percent.

At its February 11, 2015 meeting, the School Board is scheduled to commission Turner Construction Company as the project contractor, to provide pre-construction services.
